Fitness Fads: Fab or Flop

Here I will try some of the most talked about fitness fads that are circling the internet and tell you guys if its worth it or not. I am always looking for new diets, fitness / weight loss hacks, etc. and I have not yet found what I am looking for. I love to try out new trends to see how well they work for my body and if it is maintainable. Weight loss is not easy and it is something I have always struggled with, so if you ever feel discouraged just know you are not alone <3

(1) Cabbage Soup Diet - Flop

For those unfamiliar with the cabbage soup diet, allow me to enlighten you. For seven days you make and consume cabbage soup. With each day there are designated foods that you are allowed to eat in addition to the cabbage soup.
Overview of the Diet:
Day One: Only fruits (except bananas)
Day Two: Start with a baked potato, then only veggies (no corn & other starchy veggies)
Day Three: Fruits and veggies (except bananas & starchy veggies)
Day Four: Only bananas, milk, & yogurt
Day Five: Only tomatoes (6-8) & protein
Day Six: Only protein & veggies (no starchy veggies)
Day Seven: Only fruits, veggies & juices (except bananas & starchy veggies)
I'm going to be honest here and say that I DID NOT make it the full seven days! I made it up until day four because I just needed a small cleanse after my birthday weekend. But I have a lot of thoughts about this diet so lets dive right in...

Quick Tip! Before starting this diet I found it super helpful to plan out my meals for the day because just fruit salad is boring!

Day One: This day was alright, I was very eager to try this diet out because it is supposed to make you lose a decent amount of weight in a short period of time. It was a pretty easy day because my house always has a variety of fruit and I love eating fruits. But by mid-day I was craving something salty, so I got creative and made salty apple chips (I'm not sure if this was allowed but I did it anyway).
Meal Ideas: Smoothies, apple chips, fruit salad

Day Two: By far the worst day! Hated it! At first I was super excited because I was thinking about all the chips I can make in the air fryer, like zucchini chips or carrot chips. But once again my cravings got the better of me and I was desperate for something sweet... so I made an iced almond milk latte (I NEEDED IT!!).
Meal Ideas: Guacamole with zucchini chips, Mediterranean salad (cucumbers, tomatoes, onions), air fried cauliflower
***I don't know if avocados are allowed, my only advice on that would be to limit yourself to 1-2 avocados for the day, because they are high in fat.
Day Three: It was pretty easy. All my cravings were satisfied because I had both salty and sweet. I also got really creative with the air fryer. I made garlic string beans, sweet carrots (using stevia), and roasted eggplant. I will say that I didn't really eat a meal, the entire day consisted of me just snacking on the fruits and the veggies.
Quick Tip! Utilize your air fryer or if you don't have one your oven or your stove top, or even your grill. Be creative when it comes to your veggies so you don't just end up eating iceberg lettuce the entire day.
Final Thoughts:

I'll be straight with you. It does work I did lose weight but not without consequences. I felt very deprived on this diet, although I would eat until I was full, I never felt satisfied. I would wake up the following days dreading the fact that I had to continue this diet. That is why when I ended the diet I started to binge eat. I lost all control when it came to food and I felt the need to eat everything in sight.
So, for those of you who need a quick way to lose a few pounds before an event, like a wedding, then this is the diet for you. But if you are looking to incorporate healthy eating habits and finding a diet that will be sustainable throughout your life than this is NOT for you! *Also, I did not want to look at another vegetable for the next week.
